Oh no, my sunburn is gonna get sunburned!

I’ve been trying to get this admin ass’t job at a local SDA academy. Doesn’t seem like I’ll get it– they keep handing me off to one new person or another, ignoring my emails, and I don’t even know WHO to call anymore. *sigh*  I’d been an admin ass’t before, I’ve been a teacher before, and wow, I even did office work in JAPAN(ESE)!

Oh well. I guess its not meant to be. I wanted it so bad though! SO BAD! It seemed perfect– working in a school, full-time, a paycheck, go back to school nights to get my master’s, a possibility of campus housing . . . ahh, too good to be true.

So instead, I’m working quality control at a berry farm for the summer!

Today was day one, and I didn’t even know half these berries EXISTED. Or at least, what they looked/tasted like. Gooseberries (red or green)? Currants (red and black)? Tayberries? Gold raspberries? Yeah, mastered it all today.

By the way, regular ol’ raspberries still taste the best.

Why God wants me out in a field, burning my pasty skin off, and covered in dust for the summer, I’ll never know. Maybe he wants me to learn Spanish. Because I’m surrounded by it all day, and so far, I understand “Hola” and “Rapido”– which I think means “Hi!” and “Monica, get your rear in gear, you’re holding up the whole friggin’ line again!” respectively.

Maybe he just wants me to appreciate all the labor, work, and administration that goes into getting fresh foods onto your grocery store shelves. I’ll never take berries for granted or complain about the prices ever again. And that’s after just one day of work!

Also, I would just like to state for the record that that stupid farm truck bed? Yes, it’s the perfect height  . . . if you’re Mexican! When you’re 5′8″, you’re gonna need free back massages and back alignments included in your pay, thankyouverymuch.  I”m gonna have the ‘Hunchback’ part to my Quasimodo nickname real quick here!

Well, I’m off to load up on vitamins and herbs– the boyfriend is sick, and it’s already a well-established routine that when one of us ends up sick or in the ER, the other is sure to follow.
